The pumpkin name comes from the ribbed, gently swollen profile of the shade, a shape that softens the hard geometry most modern pendants rely on. Ribbing does real work as well: it breaks the light as it leaves the shade, so the pool underneath is even rather than ringed, and it catches highlights along the curve that keep the fitting interesting when it is switched off.
