Most outdoor accidents at night happen at a change of level, not in the middle of a path. A panel charges an internal battery through daylight hours and a dusk sensor switches the lamp on by itself, so there is no cable to run out to a step, no transformer to house and nothing to remember to switch on. That independence is what makes it practical on garden steps, side paths and decking where mains work would mean lifting the surface.

The housing is sealed and built to stay outdoors through the seasons, and the light output is warm and low rather than harsh, which suits a residential setting far better than a security beam.
